About the Exhibition

About

In Offerings, the works are derived from found images of flower arrangements. The original floral subjects are either wholly or partially removed, leaving their coloured backdrops to become compositional tools from which to build collaged abstracted spaces. When reconfigured through the act of painting, the resulting compositions becomes a series of discrete parts which prompt the eye to skirt over and then fall into adjacent areas. The works oscillate between quiet contemplation associated with the language of Ikebana and interrupted scenes where background and foreground are upended, resulting in tenuous spaces that function as sites of anxiety and desire.
